Washington DC
If
you ask someone if they know Washington DC, they'll probably just shrug, point
to the top right spot on the map of USA and say , "The capital city of
the USA, right?"
But
do we actually know the city as well as we let on?
Think
again...............
Under
the picturesque and quaint facade, Washington DC is home to more spies than any
other city on earth!
Washington
DC is home to the White House. The white house is 1700's mansion which resembles
a cross between a bungalow and a palace. A row of brightly hued tulips are
artfully arranged in an arch around the central fountain.Overall the effect is
quite blinding so I suggest keeping a pair of sunglasses handy(kidding).
A six minute drive
away or a 26 minute walk away(I wouldn't recommend that unless you are
worried about your waist size;)is the Lincoln memorial.I know being in a
ginormous hall with 30 feet tall statue glowering down at you doesn't appeal to
anyone but the air of authority around the majestic statue makes you think
twice about it.You can almost feel yourself transported to the past when
Abraham Lincoln first made the declaration that changed America forever....
Opposite to the
reflecting pool is the obelisk (though
opposite depends on the side your standing on J) The obelisk is a 555 – foot long shaft completed by Army
Corps of Engineers. It is an exquisite sight and the beauty is doubled when it is reflected in the pool.
The United States
Capitol is among the most symbolically important and architecturally impressive
buildings in the nation. It has housed the meeting chambers of the House of
Representatives and the Senate for two centuries.
Last of my list but
not Washington’s is …………………… you guessed it ! The spy museum!
I thought it was a
dead giveaway.
There are so many real
artifacts which really are must see and information which is just mind
boggling. You will see the same man looking like a hippie, an aristocrat, the
ice cream man ……
All because of simple
yet effective disguises.
To make it even
better, there is a network of secret tunnels above for spy practice (and eavesdropping)……………………………………….
Though you’re going to
be worn out at the end of the day by walking, it is totally worth it! I just have two more tips for you:
Number 1 - Never miss you bus or you'll be stranded for a very long and boring 30 minutes.
Number 2 - Bring along a tube of cramp relief medicine with you.

Washington is a place
where history mixes with the modern to create a beautiful, contemporary
scenery.
Excellent piece of writing. Felt as if I was visiting Washington !
